Dangerous Zone?Heartening to see that tremendous support has been building up for Chitralekha’s fight for justice. It must be the online activities which created such great support for the cause. (for instance, the request for endorsement in fishpond). But unfortunately there is something disturbing. While all these activities where going on DHRM leader V V Selvaraj was arrested with all the standard police-media hype. There wasn’t much remonstration. The delayed arrest of Selvaraj indicates that the police might have waited for the protests against the anti Dalit measures of the State and police to cool down. Lack of a consistent protest must have helped them. Why is it that’we’ like to remain in the safer zones? 6 comments to Dangerous Zone? |

Dear Ajith,
Any suggestions as to what can be done immediately by us………
I would like to mention that its not only the online activities which has created great support for chitralekha, there has been parallel processes and strategies which have been done too. For whom is the spheres of “danger zone” and “safer zone”

dear anil,
i just wanted to mention that i feel that the activists and intellectuals and other concerned persons including me were hesitant towards varkala issue which was already constructed as a dangerous issue.this is disturbing.immediate activities have to be discussed.

as far as i know there is a convention organised in TVM to support chitralekha and all intellectuals (both dalit and non-dalit) participating in it. Why cant it be the occasion to raise the issue of DHRM, the demonising of Dalits, the harassment of Laha Gopalan etc.?

why not make this as a place to raise the issue? (if “intellectuals” are busy with meetings at TVM)

isnt it simple ajith????? chitras case fits a template, and selvaraj does not…… we urban night riders can happily take chitra to our fold ……tears and all…. send her some money and care and feel happy….. but this selvaraj is a dagerous guy….dont you see…. the ‘enemies” are not well defined in hhis case…… the enemy could be from within…. too intimate for comfort….. maybe here we share the reactionary cpim view deep within…. but i am willing to send them some money…. for the case…. justice for all…. even for mislead dalit youths….. why cant he drive an auto????? he looks healthy…. so goes the logic… suppose it is clear now…

chitralekha is a dalit activist whose “activsm” made people across the countryto come out of the cocoon and act. she cannot be reduced to a mere template. She s equally “dangerous” in the sense that her assertion and theorising emerging from her own locale created the image of a woman who wont “listen to”.. means cannot be patronised so easily. a dangerous zone for many patronisng activists/acedemics/politicians etc.
